Brighter Than the Flames is a tribute to brave heroes who fight every day to keep communities safe and protected. The piece was commissioned by the Music In the Mountains Festival Orchestra in Durango, Colorado (Greg Hustis, Artistic Director) in response to a deadly outbreak of wildfires in the summer 2018, during which local firefighters, police, military personnel, and community volunteers banded together in an inspiring display of heroism, resilience, and community spirit to help put the fires out and get people to safety. I hope this piece serves as a heartfelt thank you to those brave heroes, and heroes everywhere.
