Sousa's own Piano arrangement notes that this march is composed expressly for, and dedicated with admiration and affection to the Boy Scouts of America (now Scouting America). This arrangement brings the piece to organ. It would be very suitable for play should the organization participate or have a presence in a Sunday church service. The march starts off with childlike or whimiscal phrases, but over time, it matures - much like the scouts themselves. With careful registration, one could capture the growth of a scout from child to young adult from start to finish. The registration is left up to the organist.
