Composed by Donald Paul Moore. Octavo. Octavo. With Standard notation. 12 pages. Duration 1:51. BriLee Music #BL471. Published by BriLee Music (CF.BL471).
UPC: 672405004718. 6.875 x 10.5 inches. Key: G major.
This stirring setting of the Christmas spiritual Mary Had A Baby includes a driving bass and catchy rhythms in the keyboard accompaniment. Spirited syncopations and an optional tambourine maintain interest throughout the piece as the work rises to a climactic ending. This is a wonderful feel-good piece. The accompaniment sets up the initial drive throughout the work. The thumping left hand in the keyboard propels the work from beginning to end. Sing with excitement and exuberance, but be sure your ears are working at full capacity. Don't sacrifice blend, balance and intonation for sheer loudness. Scoops are appropriate in the spiritual style but pick them carefully so everyone does them at the same time. Be sure the syncopations are crisp and in tune. Option: At measure 13-21 you may want to use a series of soloists if you want to highlight some of the voices in the ensemble. At the end, release with a snap. Then stand very still until your director releases you. Let the full effect of your performance surround you and your audience. It's going to be exciting!
