Excellent Resource for Blues Piano Students
This Blues & Barrelhouse Piano method is fantastic for students. The 'no music reading required' approach, coupled with Ann Rabson's video lessons, makes complex blues grooves accessible. The clear structure on left-hand patterns and improvisation is superb for developing rhythmic independence and creativity. Engraving is clear, and the lessons provide great fingering ideas implicitly, making it an encouraging tool for a wide range of students.

Solid Foundation for Blues Improvisation
While this is a method book, not a collection of gig charts, the instruction on blues and barrelhouse piano is incredibly valuable. Ann Rabson's focus on essential left-hand grooves and soloing concepts helps build a solid foundation. You won't find traditional chord symbols for sight-reading on a gig, but the knowledge gained here, especially the improvisation techniques, is easily adaptable and will enhance any blues set.
