The Korean folk song “Bird, Bird, Blue Bird” is very significant in that it is a unique musical heritage of Korea.
Along with Korea’s representative folk song “Arirang,” “Bird, Bird, Blue Bird” is also a unique melody of Korea and music that contains history, life, and soul, and its simple and beautiful melody is a world heritage that deserves to be spread to the world.
The faintly played theme gradually increases in intensity and repeats. Then, the violin and piano alternately play the theme along with the descending perfect fifth tonal changes. The latter part of the cadenza that follows is accompanied by harmonics and short connecting phrases that give off an oriental feel. The two instruments alternately play the theme and the counter melody in the bass and treble, and the finale presents a musical climax with majestic chords and tense notes, ending with witty and decisive note handling. The original music was composed for solo violin and string ensemble, and later, this music has been rearranged for violin and piano.
