The music was written in 1873 by Phoebe Knapp and the lyrics were added by her good friend, blind hymn-writer Fanny Crosby. Various artists and groups have recorded versions of this hymn over the years from gospel artist Mahalia Jackson to country singer Alan Jackson. This String Trio arrangement is fairly standard and aligned with the sacred hymn. It has a universal appeal, as the lyrics state: "this is my story, this is my song.".
