A fresh, new setting of the beloved Psalm text for SATB choir, trumpet and organ. Not especially difficult, but it will take a seasoned choir to sing well; occasional divisi.
The celebratory work has three sections (ABA), with the “A” sections written in modal mixture infused with quartal harmony. This bookends the anthem with colourful, somewhat dissonant/unusual sounds. The contrasting “B” section, with common triadic harmony sometimes a cappella, sometimes accompanied, focuses on the ministry of angels mentioned in the psalm text. It builds from a soft beginning through antiphonal lines between treble/bass parts to an unstoppable climax at the text, “Bless the Lord, you angels of His.” While celebrating the ministry of angels, it is still clear in the psalm that it is God who receives the glory and praise.
