Solid Steely Dan Arrangement for Gigs
Mike Tomaro's arrangement of "Black Cow" is a perfect addition to any gigging big band's book. The "moderate funk style" is authentic, and the arrangement of "distinctive horn riffs" sounds spot-on. The parts are well-laid out (as expected from Hal Leonard) with clear chord symbols, making it easy to rehearse quickly and perform live. Definitely a crowd-pleaser.

Well-Crafted Piano Role in a Dynamic Ensemble Chart
This Grade 4 jazz ensemble arrangement of "Black Cow" offers a thoughtfully integrated piano part. Finally, a Great "Black Cow" for My Big Band!
As a long-time Steely Dan fan and player in a community jazz band, I'm thrilled with this "Black Cow" arrangement. Mike Tomaro perfectly captures the original "Aja" feel with its "moderate funk style." Even at Grade 4, it's incredibly fun and rewarding to play, especially the horn riffs and the piano/tenor solos. It really makes us "sound like the record"!
