In this article, I present my arrangement for school orchestra of this extraordinary piece, designed to make its performance accessible to young musicians while preserving the essence and energy of the original.
When I decided to arrange Birdland for school orchestra, my main goal was to adapt the complexity of the original piece to an ensemble made up of students with varying levels of experience. I aimed to balance the instrumental parts in order to make the piece playable, yet still engaging and exciting both to perform and to listen to.
The arrangement is written for a typical school orchestra and may include: flute, piano, organ, bass, guitar, drums, percussion, vibraphone, marimba, and glockenspiel.

Birdland gives students the opportunity to explore the language of jazz fusion in an orchestral setting, developing listening skills, rhythm, and ensemble sensitivity.
