Inspiring Jazz Piano
I absolutely love diving into this Bill Evans collection! Playing these arrangements of classics like 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'My Foolish Heart' makes me feel like I'm really capturing the Bill Evans vibe. Solid Arrangements for Gigs
As a working pianist, having reliable charts is key. This Bill Evans collection delivers solid, intermediate-to-advanced arrangements by Brent Edstrom for a strong repertoire. The included chord symbols are accurate and helpful for improvisation on standards like 'My Foolish Heart.' My only quibble is the binding makes page turns a bit tricky mid-gig; a spiral-bound option would be ideal for practical use.

Bill Evans - with respect
After receiving and going through this one, I have and understanding why every great jazz pianist pays so much respect to Bill Evans. The arrangements look easy visually, but are complex and beautiful insights into each piece - reqlly happy to have gone there

Fine arrangements but Bill Evans simplified
There are a couple of phrases that don't sound quite right to me - a missing flat for instance, a note too dissonant for the intended voicing - but the arrangements are indeed lovely. If you compare these to actual *transcriptions* that the same arranger has made you'll see why I say this is a simplified Bill Evans. Not dumbed down, but different. One of the most elusive qualities of his playing are the innumerable tempo changes, which are not reflected here. But a wonderful compilation.

Binder Bind
I agree with Peter Kay's comment about the binding used by the publisher. Very annoying trying to keep a 96-page book open on the piano. Why not use a spiral? I'd gladly pay a couple of bucks more for the convenience. Otherwise, great collection and arrangements.

Bill Evans Solo
Excellent intelligent arrangements and well worth having. But why do music publishers persist in publishing music books like this where the pages won't fold flat and keep closing while you're trying to play. I believe the trade name for this type of book binding is 'Perfect Binding' but it's anything but perfect.

This is a beautiful compilation of songs, and what's more, it is beautifully arranged. Brent Edstrom has done an outstanding job here, and I find myself going back time and time again to this collection of songs.

Another excellent volume in the Hal Leonard Jazz Piano Solo series. Captures much of the essence of the Evans style. The left hand voicings are very typical as are the inner voice movements and right hand lines. The chords are fully notated such that the arrangements would be well suited for using with a bass and drums for a full Evans trio treatment. Contains many standards covered by Evans and one original, namely Letter To Evan. An excellent introduction to the Bill Evans style.
