Laufey’s hit song and album, “Bewitched” have lead to a wave of popularity and sold out arena concerts throughout the country. I am personally thrilled by the positive influence that her music is having on the youth (and older folks like me). This arrangement for band was written to further that impact by allowing aspiring musicians to perform her music in the original key with their band. This arrangement was designed to work as an instrumental piece or as accompaniment to the optional vocal part. Optional rhythm section parts (piano, electric bass and changes on the bass part for guitar) are included in case the band wishes to supplement.
Throughout my career, students amazed me by playing challenging music when they were familiar with the song or style. However, the original key of “D” major is not a common tonality for school band music. As a result, I recommend including scale practice in that key, in 3/4 and use of the provided hand out-a Unison Bewitched Refrain Practice sheet. I had great success with having the entire band learn challenging figures like the refrain of this song, by playing/mastering them in unison prior to reading a piece on their own assigned parts for the first time.
