Beatus Primo aus: Selva morale et spirituale by Claudio Monteverdi Choir - Sheet Music

By Claudio Monteverdi

The remarkable collection Selva morale et spirituale, first published in 1641, is a milestone in Monteverdi's oeuvre and reflects his almost thirty years as a church musician in Venice. Just as in his other Beatus settings (SV 269, SV 195), in this composition Monteverdi uses the opening words of the "blessed, God-fearing man" as a kind of ritornello. It‘s an extremely effective composition which also incorporates influences from the techniques of madrigal composition of his time.
