Do you like hymns? Well, for all my church going friends, there is a certain hymn of Irish descent for Irish Christians were worshipping to keep the father in their sights. It was originally thought of in the 1800s. The first famous published version was published in 1912 by Eleanor Hull. The tune was later set to the tune of "Slane." The song went through several different translations including one of the Methodist variety in 1964 as well as subsequent modern translations throughout the rest of the century. Now, there have been several instrumental versions for orchestra and concert band. The version of the hymn I present is for solo piano. It's my first piece of sacred piano music. It features include parallel seconds alongside the melody to make it a little more colorful and dissonant at certain intervals. It is easy enough for intermediate players to play, but challenging enough to make a great recital piece that is uplifting and intensly spiritual. It is technically designed for intermediate piano players and higher. It is definitely meant for church worship. It can be used as a backing track for church worship as vocalists sing the words.
