Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download Be Thou My Vision for Concert Band - arranged by Bryan Kidd
The 20th century hymn, Be Thou My Vision is based on a 7th century Irish poem, Rob tú mo baile, attributed to Saint Dallan. In the poem, Dallan recounts the legend of Saint Patrick’s defiance of the High King by celebrating Christ over the pagan rituals that had been decreed by the king. Saint Patrick, rather than being punished for his rebelliousness, won the respect of the High King and was allowed to continue to preach and evangelize.
Mary E. Byrne (1880-1931) translated Dallan’s poem into English in 1905. Eleanor H. Hull (1860-1935) reworked the words so they would be better suited for corporate singing in 1919, setting them to the traditional Irish tune known as “Slane” (Slane Hill is the place where Saint Patrick’s act of defiance is thought to have taken place).
Flowing lines and simple harmony grace this arrangement by Bryan Kidd.
