'Battle on the Tower' is the epic villain battle score cue from Disney's animated classic, Beauty and the Beast (1991). In this scene, Gaston pursues the Beast in a dark and stormy night atop the Castle, in a hunt to kill him and have Belle for himself.

Composer Alan Menken packed this cue with references to the film’s other musical themes, primarily the 3-note character motif for the Beast (upward minor seventh, then downward whole step), and The Mob Song. In the later part of the cue, there is a brief reprise of the Prologue melody (influenced by Saint-Saens “Aquarium”), reminiscent of the Beast’s curse in the opening of the film. As Beast and Belle are reunited, the melody from "Belle" (“Ah, isn’t this amazing, it’s my favorite part because, you’ll see”) is played in a lush orchestration. There are key changes throughout, often modulating up a minor 3rd - one of Alan Menken’s musical signatures.

Beauty and the Beast (1991) was the winner of 2 Academy Awards (best original score and best original song), with many more Oscar winnings to follow for Alan Menken. Orchestrations for the film were done by Danny Troob and Michael Starobin, elevating Menken’s modern Broadway sensibility with rich, symphonic textures in Menken's signature thematic style.

This arrangement for solo piano is a reduction of the full orchestra, and is suited for Intermediate+ pianists. Chords are marked throughout. An additional staff is shown as needed to include instrumental elements that could not be fully condensed (for the performer's reference).
