“Barcelona” – famously performed by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé – was born from Mercury’s deep admiration for Caballé and his desire to merge rock with operatic grandeur. Their collaboration culminated in this extraordinary anthem, dedicated to Caballé’s hometown of Barcelona and later embraced worldwide, not least through its association with the 1992 Olympic Games.

This a cappella arrangement for mixed choir (SATB) with solo soprano captures the same lush textures and epic sweep as the original. Richly scored and sonorous, it unfolds with impressive intensity while remaining practical: only the soprano divides occasionally, so ensembles of six singers or more can fully realize its powerful sound.
