Explorer Level (correlates with Book 1, p. 11) From our very easiest series, Mike has created a “bluesy” sounding original using only quarter notes and half notes (percussion have a few eighths). This "Explorer Level" "Bandroom Boogie" is brilliantly arranged for early band development. Sweeney ensures all sections contribute effectively, much like good voice-leading, fostering a cohesive sound. The "quarter and half notes" provide a strong rhythmic foundation, and the "brief shining moment" for each section cultivates individual and collective musicianship, leading to a satisfying "full band finish."

As a sub, this "Bandroom Boogie" chart is a breeze to jump into. The "Beginning" level means simple rhythms (mostly quarter/half notes), and the "bluesy" feel is fun to play. While full band scores don't typically have lead sheet chord symbols, the parts are clear and the arrangement is standard enough to be an effective, quick addition to any beginner concert.

Playing "Bandroom Boogie" in my community band is genuinely enjoyable. Michael Sweeney's "bluesy sounding original" is catchy and makes you feel like you're really contributing.
