Ciprian Porumbescu's Ballad for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 29, is one of his most well-known works. Composed in 1880, it is one of the few Romanian compositions from the 19th century that continues to enjoy great popularity. The piece stylizes elements of the doina, ballad, and romance, presenting them in an expressive, lyrical instrumental writing typical of Romanticism.
