Urtext. Composed by Carl Reinecke. Edited by Henrik Wiese. This edition: stapled. Orchestra; stapled. Partitur-Bibliothek (Score Library). Romantic; Late-romantic. Full score. 40 pages. Duration 8:00. Breitkopf and Haertel #PB 5749. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.PB-5749).
ISBN 9790004217115. 10 x 12.5 inches.
Carl Reinecke was keen to explore music, not just "nibble" at it. Numerous statements reveal that he approved of and even relished small deviations in the music text in parallel passages. The present edition largely dispenses with assimilation – Reinecke speaks of applanation or levelling. It is based on both the first edition of the orchestral parts and the composer’s original version for flute and piano, the only surviving source in which the solo part is included. The fact that the different versions are not assimilated but juxtaposed, both in the score and in the piano reduction accompanying the edition, facilitates the study of both versions through direct comparison. At the same time, this edition provides a consistent music text suitable for today’s orchestral practice.
Indispensable repertoire work; First critical edition; Two versions of the ballad are included in score and piano reduction.
