Back to Normandy is een concertwerk voor concertband dat is geschreven ter gelegenheid van D-Day. D-day (6 Juni 1944) is de dag dat de bevrijding van West Europa begon op de stranden van Normandië. Een lange veldtocht door Europa volgde, met de uiteindelijke bevrijding van Nederland op 5 Mei 1945.
Het stuk beschrijft de eerste uren van de landing met als (muzikaal) hoogtepunt, de beschietingen van de Duitse stellingen. Als introductie zie en hoor je de voorbereidingen voor deze grootste veldtocht aller tijden.
Heel bijzonder en uniek aan dit werk is dat de muziek synchroon kan worden uitgevoerd met een film met originele beelden, die speciaal hiervoor vervaardigd is. Een primeur voor Molenaar Edition en de concertbands. En ongetwijfeld een extra ervaring voor de bezoekers van de concerten. Tot nu toe waren dergelijke uitvoeringen voorbehouden aan professionele orkesten (denk aan George Fenton, Earth).
Dit werk is bij uitstek geschikt voor concertbands die het publiek iets bijzonders wil bieden en daarnaast ook nog onze bevrijders muzikaal wil eren. De film waarmee het concert geoefend kan worden staat op Youtube (maten en metronoom zijn zichtbaar/hoorbaar).

Back to Normandy krijgt zijn première in de Verenigde Staten en zal daarna in een serie concerten in Frankrijk tijdens de 70 jaar D-Day herdenkingen - ten overstaan van de veteranen - worden uitgevoerd. Daarna zal het Amerikaanse orkest, de Holland Legion Band, nog concerten in Luxemburg en Nederland verzorgen.

Back to Normandy is a composition for concert band on the occasion of D-Day. On D-Day (June 6, 1944) the liberation of Western Europe started at the beach of Normandy. A long campaign through Europe followed before the liberation was complete. Back to Normandy describes the first hours of the landing with the shelling of the German positions as a (musical) peak. As an introduction you will see and hear de preperations for the biggest campaign ever. Very special and unique is the fact that the music of Back to Normandy can be performed synchronously with a movie with original footage, specially made for this composition. This will without a doubt be an extra experience for the audience. So far performances like this were exclusively for professional orchestras (like George Fenton, Earth). This piece is specially suitable for concert bands that want to offer their audience something special and also want to honour the liberators. Back to Normandy a été écrite à l’occasion de D-Day (le 6 juin 1944), le jour où la libération de l’Europe de l’Ouest commença sur les plages de Normandie. La pièce dépeint le commencement du débarquement avec comme apothéose (musicale) les tirs sur les lignes allemandes. Extraordinaire est le fait que la musique puisse être jouée synchroniquement avec le film qui est tourné spécialement pour l’occasion. Back to Normandy convient par excellence aux groupes qui veulent proposer quelque chose de spéciale au public tout en honorant nos libérateurs.

Sehr außerordentlich an diesem Werk ist, dass die Musik synchron ausgeführt werden kann, mit einem Film der hierfür ins Besondere gemacht wurde. Back To Normandy ist besonders für Konzertbands geeignet, die dem Publikum etwas Spezielles bieten wollen und außerdem den Befreiern musikalisch Ehre erweisen wollen.
