These concertos were composed for harpsichord (or organ), strings, and continuo. The concerto consists of three movements: Allegro moderato, Largo, and Presto.
The "Largo" is the concerto's second movement, particularly famous for its serene and expressive melody. This movement is believed to have originated from an earlier oboe concerto in F major. It also serves as the sinfonia to the cantata "Ich steh mit einem Fuß im Grabe," BWV 156. The "Largo" resembles the opening Andante of a Flute Concerto in G major (TWV 51:G2) by Georg Philipp Telemann, with the soloists playing almost identical notes for the first two-and-a-half measures. It is suggested that Bach's movement may be an elaboration of Telemann's original.
The concerto is scored for a solo harpsichord, violin I/II, viola, and continuo (cello, violone). The "Largo" is often performed on various instruments, including the piano, showcasing its versatility and enduring popularity.
