Composed by Caterina Barontini. This edition: pdf, streaming. Classical, Contemporary. Score. 31 pages. Digilio Publishing #1240778. Published by Digilio Publishing (A0.1675178).
Azzurro come il cielo (Azure as the Sky), op. 1, is a suite for reciting voice and piano by Caterina Barontini. This piano piece in five movements is based on a poem written by the composer herself. This work merges two passions of the Author, poetry and music, in the belief that poetry can feed the imagery of composers and listeners today also.
Azure as the Sky opens with an introductory movement which focuses on an expression ofgratitude towards the dedicatee, the writer and teacher Alessandro D'Avenia. Afterwards, each of the following four movements is conceived to comment on a verse of the poem, to testify that poetry can reflect itself into the paths of musical thought.
Caterina Barontini's compositional style experiments a fusionbetween modal and tonal music, in the footsteps of great French composers of the 20th Century. The work is permeated by archaic atmospheres that recall Hildegard von Bingen's melodies, accompanied by textures that often evoke Bachian tunes.
Each work by D'Avenia provides a worldview that is new and ancient at the same time, capable of captivating the reader and shaking them to the core. (...) Gratitude gave me the tuning fork to understand the meaning of my artistic vocation and to prepare myself to be reborn azure as the sky. – Caterina Barontini
