This setting gets its personality from the varied accompaniment and harmonization. The first verse is set for women alone with a gently rocking accompaniment. Tenors are added in the second verse while the accompaniment takes on a flow of eighth notes. All four parts are used in the final verse over scales and arpeggios that create an undulating sound. This setting of the famous carol should grace carol concerts and services.
