Ave Maria is a beautiful song by Franz Schubert called 'Ellen's Third Song' from a work based on Walter Scott's poem 'The Lady of the Lake'. The opening words and refrain of Ellen's song , namely 'Ave Maria', may have led to the idea of adapting Schubert's melody for the full text of the Traditional Roman Catholic prayer. It is so much used in this way that it has led many people to think that this was the origional idea.
I have arranged the music for Brass Quartet and is for an advanced ensemble. Much dovetailing of phrases and motifs.
It would be a wonderful piece to play in any setting, but in a solemn church service it would be very atmospheric, for instance in a Remembrance Service .
