Dieser Auswahlband enthält Ave Maria-Vertonungen und andere an die Jungfrau Maria gerichtete Kompositionen aus fünf Jahrhunderten. Den größten Teil der Sammlung bilden Konzertarien, Romanzen und Volkslieder für Sologesang mit Klavier- oder Orgelbegleitung. Dazwischen gibt es selten aufgeführte und unbekannte Kompositionen von H. Marschner, C. Gounod und J.-B. Faure: Vertonungen weiterer religiöser Texte fügen sich harmonisch ein: "Cantique de Noel" von Adolphe Adam, "Crucifix" von Jean-Baptiste Faure, Alessandro Stradellas berühmte Arie "Pietà, Signore!" und verschiedene Romanzen über Texte des großen russischen Dichters Mikhail Lermontov. Die Werke für Vokalensemble wurden nicht gesondert zusammengefaßt, sondern chronologisch in der Abfolge der Solostücke eingereiht. Zu ihnen gehören Originalstücke von Mozart, Schubert, Bellini und Donizetti, sowie zahlreiche Bearbeitungen, darunter Mussorgskijs Transkription von L. Gordigianis "Canto popolare toscano".
Ave Maria-Vertonungen und andere an die Jungfrau Maria gerichtete Kompositionen aus fünf Jahrhunderten. U.a. Konzertarien, Romanzen und Volkslieder für Sologesang mit Klavier- oder Orgelbegleitung. Vertonungen für 2-4 Singstimmen fügen sich harmonisch ein und lassen sich teilweise auch solistisch vortragen.
