A stunning piece!
Ivo Antognini's 'Ave Maria' came to my attention through PROJECT : ENCORE, and I was immediately captivated by it! In performance, we found the lyrical sweep of the lines, punctuated by just a taste of sprechstimme, provided fresh expression of this often-set sacred text, making in (in my opinion) one of the most compelling settings available. It is quite accessible for a mixed ensemble of good basic skill. My belief is that Mr. Antognini's setting will become part of well-known choral repertory, and I recommend it strongly to my colleagues.
