Strauss composed the work at the age of 22, dedicated it to Hans von Bülow and conducted the premiere in Munich shortly after completion. As part of the new edition “Richard Strauss Works • Critical Edition”, all sources were examined and evaluated, provided with a critical report and published in a newly set score.
