Although Auld Lang Syne is often sung at social occasions it can be an excellent concert piece that can engage and involve audiences. The arrangement takes everyone on a musical journey through a variety of styles and speeds.
The opening would ideally be sung by soloists but alternatively can be sung by the choir. The middle section imitates a Scottish gigue and gives an opportunity for the choir to shout, clap and if they are feeling adventurous do a ceilidh! The final section can involve the audience singing along. When the sound of the clock strikes midnight in the music, a series of party poppers, confetti canons or pyrotechnics can be fired!
This arrangement works well with just a piano accompaniment but can also work well along side the use of folk instruments. Although well known this particular arrangment can create an amazing climax to a performance.
