The piece opens with a soulful brass chorale treatment (Alla “Closer Walk With Thee”). It transitions into a vibrant second-line street parade groove driven by the baritone sax. The wind players (or the audience!) can sing the song once through or the guitarist can shine with a solo. The rhythm section provides a funky accompaniment with a Professor Longhair-inspired piano part. Then the brass takes the lead and is joined by saxes playing impressive pyrotechnic lines.
This 3:10-minute arrangement will shine in holiday concerts or festive year-end gatherings.
