These Asynchronies were conceived in a classroom setting as a practical demonstration of the expressive potential of asynchronous modes — structures in which each octave presents a different intervallic design.
The complex that organises the entire piece, {3[1, 2], 2, 2, 2}, derives directly from the name of the student to whom the work is dedicated, serving as the generative matrix for its whole musical architecture.
