When my wife asked me to write some short piano studies for a pupil with small hands, I initially wrote five pieces, but then I thought about the aspects of music that could be studied at a higher level, hence this set of four Aspects - Introduction, Ground Bass, Chromatically Speaking and About the Diminshed 7th. The Introduction introduces the style of development while each of the others is an in depth study of the particular aspect - ground bass, chromatic scale passages and diminished 7ths, a particular favourite of mine. Totalling just over 7 minutes, they offer sufficient challenges for a quite advanced student, and could be performed publicly as a short suite.
