This study of artificial harmonics on the cello begins by strengthening the thumb so it can hold the string down on its own. At the same time, the book addresses the placement of the third finger. Artificial harmonics are a type of "blind" octave where the traditional octave hand position must be memorized and relied upon. Advanced cellists can use this book after Octaves for the Cello, Books One through Five, to prepare for artificial harmonics found in the solo cello literature.

Better sooner than later
Playing harmonics on cello, especially artificial harmonics, can be intimidating. Eventually you will encounter them which is sometimes suddenly in some passage that requires a feat of gymnastics to accomplish. I've had this book for some time and finally got the courage to study it. I wish I had done so even sooner because it presents playing harmonics in a very easy pace so by the end I felt more confident playing fingered harmonics. I think you will too! Highly recommended!
