Published by Han-Ki Kim (A0.1788707)."Arirang (A)" for Violin and Piano is a work based on the second movement of Kim Han-ki's Violin Sonata No. 3. "Arirang," used as the theme for this movement, is a Korean folk song with a long history and tradition, a representative melody widely loved not only on the Korean Peninsula but also around the world.
In 2010, the composer was commissioned by the Italian chamber I Musici to write a piece to commemorate the 60th anniversary of its founding. He composed a string ensemble based on "Arirang" and dedicated it to the I Musici. This work was performed in Seoul in 2012. This score is a relatively simple version of the original work, recomposed for viola and piano.
This piece was also performed as the finalist in a competition commemorating the late Kwon Hyuk-ju(Violinist). If you're looking for a piece with a more musical dimension than this score, I recommend "Arirang (B).".
