Arcane Nocturne is a concert work for advanced horn quintet that explores the rich timbral and expressive possibilities of the instrument through a contemporary musical language rooted in Colombian Andean traditions.
Built from a simple melodic motive, the piece unfolds through continuous transformation, creating a layered and evolving sound world. Its harmonic language moves fluidly between modality and atonality, while incorporating stylized gestures inspired by traditional Colombian rhythms such as bambuco and pasillo. These elements are not presented literally, but reimagined through complex metric structures and dense rhythmic textures.
The work also draws on impressionistic techniques, including harmonic layering, shifts in instrumental color, and tonal ambiguity, resulting in an atmosphere that is both enigmatic and introspective.
