The ocean is full of extraordinary creatures, from sharks and whales to jellyfish and coral. More than 50 percent of all living creatures on Earth can be found in oceans. Covering more than 70 percent of the surface of Earth, oceans are filled with wondrous life, a wide spectrum of colors, and great mystery. Dive deep into ocean life with this selection for beginner concert band (Grade 1).
The piece is written in B-flat Mixolydian, with a contrasting softer section in C minor. There is also non-functional harmony throughout the work that differentiates this piece from other works of this difficulty, with few accidentals (concert B in saxes and horns, concert D-flat in low brass and reeds). This selection can be played with a minimal ensemble of flutes, clarinets, alto saxes, trumpets, trombones and percussion. A treble clef baritone part is also included.
