Program Note
Gabriel Fauré’s Après un rêve (“After a Dream”), first published in the 1870s, captures the fleeting radiance of a dream of love and freedom, only to awaken to longing. Its tender melody—originally for voice and piano based on an anonymous Italian poem translated into French by Romain Bussine— lingers at the threshold between dream and reality. In this reed quintet arrangement, the piece finds new colors while keeping its intimate, dreamlike glow.
