The Latin libretto was written by Iacopo Cassetti, and it's base on the Book of Judith. Vivaldi wrote this oratorio for the ensemble (the orchestra and chorus) of the Ospedale della Pietà. The interesting fact that all characters (male and female), choruses line (originally written in SATB – mixed chorus range) and orchestral lines were sung and played by women.
This arrangement is written for female ensemble (from SATB voices range (G2 – E flat 5) to voices SSA range (D4 – G5 for G minor, and C4 – F5 for F minor key version)), accompanied by keyboard instrument.
