Angelus ad postores ait (The angel said to the shepherds) for 12-part Trombone Choir arranged by Fabio Rovere is an antiphonal choral work published in Venice in 1587 as part of Volume I of motets compiled by the young Giovanni that also includes works by his famous uncle Andrea. This motet No. 40, alternates between intricate polyphony, back and forth antiphonal statements, dramatic declamations and reaches an emotional climax in the final bars.

The two choirs of trombonists are split between high and low offering contrasts in dynamics and colors. Instrumentation is for 3 alto trombones, 6 tenor trombones and 3 bass trombones and is suitable for advanced performers with some high d's in one of the alto parts.

This work is very appropriate to perform at Christmas.
