This lush arrangement of the familiar Christmas carol keeps the traditional melody while often changing the chord structure underneath to give it an unanticipated new feel. It opens with a Gloria chorus to introduce the new chords, then dives into the first verse. When we get to the second verse, it starts with the traditional harmonies that morph through a key change into the third verse where the angelic descant enters over the piano melody - the singer reaches up to a high Bb. It ends with a tender tag and a final Gloria in the descant for a peaceful finish. Great for soloists and groups looking for a slightly adjusted but still familiar and nostalgic entry into their holiday repertoire.
Also available as SATB or SSA with piano accompaniment, and as an SATB mashup with the hymn, "Jesus, Once of Humble Birth." The audio sample is taken from the second chorus.
