anonymous author, which was first published in 1685 by Robert Carr.
The original work is built on a melodic "ostinato" in D minor over which 10 equally
beautiful and melodic divisions develop, full of possibilities for
creative interpretation and arrangement.
This arrangement for flute, oboe and bassoon has a simple ground realisation, but can be played without it.
In the arrangement's bar 57, the flute introduces the ninth division.This breaks the strong inertia in the minor mode to give a change to the major mode of the tonic which, although ephemeral, achievesa refreshing effect that is replicated by the oboe and bassoon respectively.
In this arrangement, the versatile beauty of the 10 divisions was utilized to exploit the musical resources of imitations,dissonant cadences, and the unique textures of each instrument, achieving the sensation of perpetual motion (a kind of musical mantra) that revolves around the solid ground, which attracts with its gravity the melodies that spin, grow, dialogue with each other, and develop upon it.
