An Eternal Climb - Grade 2.5 concert band

An Eternal Climb is one of 4 pieces commissioned by Hilliard Weaver Middle School bands for the 30th Anniversary of their building. This piece follows the legend of Sisyphus, who in Greek mythology was forced by the Gods to push a boulder up a hill for eternity, only for it to roll down every time he almost reached the top. The beginning of this piece symbolizes the existential dread of realizing what eternity has become for him. This is followed by the gradual acceptance of his fate and search for meaning in his new, strenuous life. In the end, we find resolution, as Sisyphus is able to find joy in his repetitive task, which makes his eternity a little more manageable, maybe something a lot of us can relate to.
