Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry (1848-1918), whose works have found a revival in more recent decades, wrote An English Suite in 1915, though it remained unpublished until 1921, three years after his death. Including seven movements, two of the movements (4. Caprice and 7. Frolic) remained untitled, and the order of the movements was not set. Both issues were resolved by his student and copyist, Emily Daymond prior to publication. The string orchestra work premiered on October 17, 1922 at Queen's Hall in London, with the Promenade Concert Orchestra under Henry Wood. Movements: 1. Prelude, 2. In Menuet Style, 3. Saraband, 4. Caprice, 5. Pastoral, 6. Air, and 7. Frolic. 8-8-5-5-5 strings included in the set.
