AN AUSTRALIAN MEDLEY - BRASS QUINTET by Traditional Brass Quintet - Digital Sheet Music

By Traditional

Scored for 2 Trumpets (Bb Cornet/Flugel Horn), Horn in F, Trombone/Euphonium and Bass. There are Alternative Parts for Eb and Bb Horn, and, Bb Trombone, Bb Euphonium, and Eb and Bb Basses all in Treble and Bass Clefs. This Medley brings together two well-known Australian tunes with the Queensland version of Waltzing Matilda which, in spite of a catchy melody written by Marie MacPherson, is less well known than the version written by Banjo Patterson and Marie Cowan. Botany Bay was originally heard, under a different name, in both Melbourne and London in the Nineteenth Century as part of a Burlesque Musical, and Click Goes the Shears reflects the importance of the wool industry in Australia. The contrasting time signatures and tempos are, in some way, symbolic of the enormous variety found in this vast continent.
