America The Beautiful Chorale Version for Brass Quintet Arranged by Jari Villanueva

"America the Beautiful" has been called "an expression of patriotism at its finest." It conveys an attitude of appreciation and gratitude for the nation's extraordinary physical beauty and abundance, without triumphalism.

The poem was written by Katharine Lee Bates in 1893 and was originally set to many different musical arrangements, including Auld Lang Syne. The most well-known version, which is used today, was composed by Samuel Ward. He wrote the hymn tune “Materna” in 1882, but it was not paired with Bates’s text until 1910.

This setting for brass quintet is a chorale version using harmonization and passing tones to make the hymn a bit more interesting to perform and listen to.

Jari Villanueva, a retired member of the United States Air Force Band where he served on the Music Production staff as well as a trumpeter and bugler, and a student of Bill Holcombe, continues writing for various ensembles. His arrangements are performed by brass quintets across the country, including many military groups. Many of his arrangements are available on Sheet Music Plus and JV MUSIC.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters. ArrangeMe allows for the publication of unique arrangements of both popular titles and original compositions from a wide variety of voices and backgrounds.
