The march contains original material as well as fragments of Dixie, Maryland, My Maryland, We’re Off to Philadelphia in the Morning, and Yankee Doodle.
Sousa wrote two uncharacteristic moments here: giving the Horns the melody in the Trio’s second half, as well as the tuba feature in the interlude.
