By Neil Sedaka. By Howard Greenfield and Neil Sedaka. Arranged by Stewart J Wallace. This edition: pdf. Broadway, Contest, Disco, Festival, Musical/Show, Pop, Show Choir. 18 pages. Stewart J Wallace #1351417. Published by Stewart J Wallace (A0.1791273).

"Amarillo" was composed by Neil Sedaka and Howard Greenfield in 1971, but is best known in Europe thanks to the recording by Tony Christie - it reached the top 10 in most countries at that time. Re-released in 2005 as a charity single that included Christie and several other celebrities including the comedian Peter Kay, it finally reached no. 1 in the UK. The sha-la-la refrain is easy to sing and makes it a popular song at parties and social gatherings. This arrangement is written for SATB choir with piano accompaniment, but this can be expanded to include other instruments by following the chord symbols. There is a separate choir-only score. The vocal parts are within a comfortable range and the melody is shared between the men in the verse, and the sopranos in the chorus. Collectively, the choir will need to sing "with energy" and the rhythms should be precise and the words well-articulated - the crescendo by the whole choir into the main refrain should be big and dramatic. This arrangement would suit an intermediate school or community choir, and would make a fitting finale on any concert programme.
