Trumpet 1-3 / horn / trombone 1-2 / euphonium / tuba (3 Bb Trumpets, F Horn, 2 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba) - Level 6
SKU: BZ.ENMS-84344
Composed by Satoshi Hiraoka. Brass. Ensemble. Score & parts. Duration 4:15. Bravo Music #ENMS-84344. Published by Bravo Music (BZ.ENMS-84344).
Commissioned for the 13th concert of Multi National Brass Ensemble and premiered in August 2010. The title "Amalgam" refers to a mixture of mercury and another metal, derived from "soft mass" in Greek. It also means different elements coming together, which is a reference to the brass ensemble. This piece is in sonata form. Each tone in the introductory scale is assigned a letter from A to Z. Several themes are derived from the spelling of "Multi National Brass Ensemble." It begins with motifs and the scale sequence with the first polyphonic theme, by contrast, the second theme of metallic sound appears in the exposition. In the development, two fugue-like developments are employed, followed by the climax, which shows the full scale of the sequence of "Multi National..." The second motif is recapitulated before the first one and elements from the opening conclude the piece. Throughout the piece, the initial motif is scattered, and each part plays an essential role in building the piece. You might discover something as you analyze the piece. (Satoshi Hiraoka).
