Alleluia SSA - Sheet Music

SSA choir, a cappella

SKU: C5.3162

Composed by Edith Scholl. Treble arrangement of the word "Alleluia". General, Easter. Octavo. Published by CanticaNOVA Publications (C5.3162).

Sr. Edith Scholl, OCSO, a Trappistine nun from Mount Saint Mary Abbey in Wrentham, Massachusetts, has written much music for her community, including this marvelous motet. It sets a single, powerful word: "Alleluia," which tells of the glory and majesty of our Lord and offers a way for us humble creatures to respond to his great blessings. The music is carefully crafted counterpoint, elegant in the interplay among the voices, but not inordinately difficult. The composer has made entrances easy - voices enter on a note sung previously by another voice part, or as a series of imitative patterns. The ranges are typical of SSA music: Soprano I D (below the staff) to G (above the staff) / Soprano II D (below the staff) to F# (top line) / Alto G (below the staff) to C# (3rd space). Time signatures alternate between 4/4 and 3/4. Textures are at one time lyrically flowing eighth notes and at another, accented quarter notes. This setting makes a fine Eastertide motet, and can certainly be sung for any festive occasion, when our "Alleluias" should ring out to the Lord!
