The statement of trust in this hymn is one of the sweetest made by Christians old and new. Even if you are not familiar with the words, the music itself moves the heart toward devotion. A melody related to the main theme opens this arrangement as an intro, then gives way to the familiar hymn tune. The melody from the intro is then stated again but now as an interlude. Double bar lines indicate the sections. The following section of the piece uses the same flowing accompaniment pattern in both the interlude and familiar hymn, subtly tying the two together. The dynamic markings in the music rise gently throughout the piece, and ends firmly, as if resolved.
As the texture thickens in the last section the right hand has a bit more to deal with, but if your practice time is limited, the up-stem melody notes in the treble clef may be played alone. The intensity can be maintained with dynamics either way you do it. A few fingering suggestions are indicated in the score, but please explore your own fingerings to fit your hand. Let your ear guide you as you use legato pedaling as harmonies change throughout the piece.
