This well-known folk/gospel tune receives a makeover using a combined text from various sources with some alterations and arranged for SATB and piano. The arrangement uses a fairly simple accompaniment with a guitar-like feel and minor/modal harmonies to enhance the meaningful text. The choral parts use frequent staggered entrances, some modified canonical treatment, and some straightforward four-part harmony to enhance and deliver the powerful words. Some of the polyphony and harmonies may challenge some choirs. The setting would best be suited to high school, college, and community choirs. If the text is considered appropriate for the occasion, it could be used by some church choirs.
